Developed by scientists at Oxford University, Oxehealth’s digital care assistant improves patient care, experience and safety on our wards.

Using contact-free sensors (not cameras, Oxehealth gives staff the capacity to detect a patient’s vital signs, such as heart and breathing rates.

At CNWL, we understand the importance of compassionate care on our wards and Oxehealth’s innovative technology will release time in their schedules, time which can be put towards more frequent and meaningful interactions with patients.

Oxehealth can also improve patient’s sleep quality, by minimising the need for physical checks. Data collected from other Trusts showed 100% of patients reported better sleep at night, and 86% reported an improvement to their privacy at night.

The system also provides activity alerts to promote patient and staff safety. For incidents like falls on dementia wards this is an invaluable feature by helping improve staff response times; reports show a 48% reduction in falls.

Data collected from other Trusts also show a 26% decrease in assaults on staff in Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit rooms.

The system went live on the first two sites on Monday 2 November: 24 Older Adult rooms and two Health Based Places of Safety/Seclusion rooms at Northwick Park Mental Health unit, as well as 24 rooms in Beatrice Places Older Adults Ward.

In the coming months you can expect to find Oxehealth in St Charles, Park Royal and Hillingdon.

Oxehealth is being trialled in 180 Older Adult Mental Health, Seclusion and PICU rooms across the CNWL Trust.
