Throughout the week free online sessions have been taking place which cover a wide range of topics, with psychological professionals and experts in attendance.

Ryan Kemp, CNWL Director of Therapies, said

“In the last week I’ve been marvelling at where we’ve come along with the psychological professions. The collaboration and working together is lovely and it feels like we’ve created another family within the Trust. I’m really proud and happy and I hope we can go from strength to strength.”

Claire Grant, Head of Profession for our Arts Psychotherapies Service at CNWL, said

“I’ve been really pleased to see the expansion of arts therapies because of that widening of choice and promoting access to psychological support.

“Having been to a psychological therapist event in Milton Keynes the other day it was really nice to link up with colleagues there and seeing the wealth of innovation and creativity across all of the psychological professions.”

Christopher Whiteley, CNWL's Chief Psychologist, said

“We’re thinking differently about how we are organising and relating our services to our communities and understanding their needs and where we might make adjustments and changes to what we do and the ways in which we deliver psychological therapy.”

A slide explaining why we need more psychological professional staffPsychological professions cover a wide range of roles and are fundamental to people’s mental health and wellbeing for all ages. Mental health issues effects 1 in 4 people each year. Thankfully, there are over 20,000 qualified psychological professionals in England alone who are at the forefront of mental health care and it’s important to recognise and celebrate the work that they do – below are a few examples of therapies:

  • Counselling Psychologist
  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapist
  • Children’s Wellbeing Practitioner

Our wide range of therapists deliver important services such as The Sexual Health Psychology Service. This is especially helpful for those who are adjusting to an HIV diagnosis or another sexually transmitted infection, have concerns about their sexual wellbeing or have any psychological health related worries. Health and Justice is another service that delivers trauma informed therapies throughout prisons, Immigration and Removal Centres and secure hospitals that cater for young adults and adults.

Psychological Professions Week 2023 is a great way to bring everyone together by sharing their knowledge and expertise. The topics being focused on range from equity, diversity and inclusion just to name a few. There will be something for everyone from these insightful sessions this week, and we recommend becoming a free member of the Psychological Professions Network which you can find more about here.

The organisers of the awareness week, Psychological Professions’, vision is “To transform lives and communities by extending and embedding psychological knowledge and practice across the whole of health and care.”
