CNWL is marking Holocaust Memorial Day to pay tribute and remember the lives lost due to genocide and to stand against prejudice today.

We will join in the national commemorations at 8pm today (27 January 2022) by safely displaying a (electric) candle in a window to pay our respects to those who were murdered for who they are, and to proudly send a message that we stand against hatred.

The theme of this year’s Holocaust Memorial Day is One Day. It is a reminder that we take One Day to remember and learn about the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and the genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur. It also a reference to hope as there may be One Day in the future with no genocide.

One Day also refences how survivors of the holocaust or genocide often talk about a day when everything changed for the worst or better.

Please join us by safely displaying a candle in a window at home, or if you are on a ward or clinical setting display an electric candle if you have one. Post a picture of your candle on social media with #HolocaustMemorialDay #LightTheDarkness

You can also mark Holocaust Memorial Day by picking One Day in history and learn about what happened on that day, for example: What happened in Warsaw on 19 April 1943? Or What happened on 12 July 1995 in Bosnia? You can learn about what happened on these dates here: Learn about the Holocaust and genocides
