Camden Council held its annual ‘We Make Camden’ summit on Thursday 23 March, focusing on the state of the Borough Report, which sets a vision for Camden to be a place where everyone can succeed, where no one is left behind and everyone has a voice.

Sarah Hulme (pictured), CNWL’s Community Services Director, was invited to reflect on the draft report, alongside other local partners including Google, University of the Arts London, the Metropolitan Police and Camden Giving.

Sarah used the opportunity to highlight some of CNWL’s local health provision to the ‘start well, live well and age well’ framework, highlighting;

  • Working in partnership to provide the best start in life to Camden’s children - Camden Integrated Early Years’ Service, a partnership between CNWL and Camden Council which brings Health Visiting together with Family Support to improve outcomes for children and families
  • CNWL’s contributions to helping Camden’s citizens to live well such as our Sexual Health Services, which provided over 2.5k contacts for HIV and over 8,000 Sexual Health Services contacts for Camden citizens last year. And our Wheelchair Service which issued 547 wheelchairs to Camden residents last year, from 1,137 referrals.
  • Our support to ageing well – our Silver Triage service which has been shown to keep 80% of frail elderly people in their own homes rather than conveying them to hospital.

All partners were invited to highlight one of the ‘We make Camden’ challenges they are working towards. Sarah reinforced our commitment to supporting Camden’s young people and citizens into our CNWL workforce through;

  • creating volunteer opportunities with CNWL’s ‘volunteer to career’ programme
  • working in partnership with partners to demystify NHS careers
  • creating dedicated opportunities for care leavers
