Maria O’Brien CNWL’s Chief Nurse, together with the Trust’s Directors of Nursing, is launching a Chief Nurse Fellowship designed to develop future nursing leaders in mental health.
The programme is for Band 7 and 8a mental health nurses who are already embedded in clinical practice at CNWL and want to develop their nursing leadership careers.
The fellowships, during the first year, will be specifically focused on mental health nurses who are black minority ethnic.
Maria O’Brien said “I recognise that there is under representation of black minority ethnic staff in more senior roles. To address this we are asking for applications from BAME staff to launch of the fellowship programme. The Directors of Nursing for each division, together with myself, will offer support to successful individuals, facilitating developmental opportunities across the breadth of the Trust, as part of the overall programme.”
The Fellowship Programme will provide a unique experience for the individual nurse and can be tailored to their particular needs with the aim of advancing mental health nursing excellence and leadership. In this first year, there will be the opportunity to appoint two fellows who will be seconded from their current roles for two days per week for one year.
Individuals will be expected to have at least three years’ experience in a Band 7 or above position. They will be able to demonstrate that they are a skilled communicator with a passion for nursing excellence, patient safety and patient experience.
The Fellowship programme is due to start in early 2021.
