Dr_Gareth_Jarvis.jpgDr Cornelius Kelly, CNWL’s Chief Medical Officer announces the appointment of Dr Gareth Jarvis (pictured) as the new Medical Director for Jameson Division (the part of CNWL that operates mental health services in Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea, Harrow and Brent, including the Grenfell Health & Wellbeing Service). Dr Jarvis replaces Dr Jo Emmanuel, who is retiring.

Dr Kelly said, “I am delighted to welcome Gareth Jarvis to CNWL and to the important role of Medical Director for Jameson division. He brings a wealth of experience and skills from his previous roles in working mental in health in north central London which will translate well to the challenges of Jameson. I know he is excited to meet colleagues here and I am sure you will offer him every assistance as he settles into the job.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank his predecessor Dr Jo Emmanuel who has worked exceptionally tirelessly these past 6 years to support colleagues and patients across Jameson Division and beyond. Her work with partners in particular has set some very impressive foundations on which her successor can build.”

Originally from the Wirral, Dr Jarvis qualified in Edinburgh and completed training across South East Scotland, Somerset and North Central London.

He is a Consultant Psychiatrist and is currently Clinical Director for the Borough of Barnet in Barnet Enfield and Haringey NHS Mental Health Trust and Clinical Lead for the Trust’s Community Transformation Programme. His previous roles include Consultant for a Primary Care Mental Health Team, four years as Consultant to the Haringey Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team, and an Associate Medical Director for Quality Improvement.

Dr Jarvis said, “I am thrilled to be joining the CNWL team as Medical Director for Jameson Division. I am a big advocate of peer working and believe the more inclusive we are in everything we do in mental health care, the better the outcomes for people. My particular passion is family and systemic informed practice, having trained in the Open Dialogue approach which originated in Finland. I am looking forward to working with everyone to think about how we involve service users more closely in their care.

“I look forward to meeting staff soon to hear about their hopes and aspirations. I chose to move to CNWL because of its great reputation as a nationally leading organisation. I believe we can be recognised as teams that provide Outstanding care.”

Rachel, Gareth's wife, is a GP. They live in North London with three young children. Gareth enjoys reading, gardening and theatre.
