A CNWL staff member’s grandson has raised over £4,000 for the NHS after being inspired by Captain Tom Moore’s incredible ‘100th Birthday Walk’ fundraising campaign .
Elijah Storey, grandson of Megan Sandiford, who works as a social worker for our Harrow Memory Service was originally hoping to raise £1,111 to help support the NHS during the Covid-19 crisis.
Last month before completing his challenge, Elijah who is nine years old said: “I have been so inspired by Captain Tom Moore and his amazing efforts to support our NHS workers, I’ve decided to follow his example.
I’ll be running 111 miles around my local common over the next 30 days, to raise money and do my bit to help support the NHS/NHS 111."
Elijah completed the challenge by running 112.11 miles and was cheered on by neighbours and local friends in the street.
Megan said 'He has done remarkably well'. She said: "Thank you to all my colleagues who supported him, I really appreciate it. He is so pleased with himself and I am sure it will spur him on to do positive things in life."
