CNWL responds to the HMIP Report raising concerns about healthcare at HMP High Down.

Patrick Gillespie, Service Director, said, “We recognise that there have been challenges delivering healthcare in High Down over the winter, but want to reassure prisoners and families that Healthcare is good, has improved and will do so further. We also want to reassure staff that we recognise their hard work but we are addressing their concerns.”

“All the issues identified (apart from the medication one) were brought to HMIP’s attention by us and had been acted on prior to the inspection; we’re proud to have a very positive culture of reporting and investigating incidents.”

“We implemented an action plan immediately, shared it with our commissioners and the prison governor and we are monitoring progress closely”
