The How Are You Harrow (HAY) survey is a collaboration between CNWL, Harrow Council and the Young Harrow Foundation, investigating the health and wellbeing of young people living across Harrow in 2021.
A total of 6,052 children and young people in Harrow answered the survey, conveying the stresses in their life, what they are struggling with and how support is vitally needed. This was across 25 schools and two Further Education Colleges. The results can help identify and target areas of need and health promotion initiatives.
A key findings report was released on Monday 8 July, here are some of the results:
- A fifth of young people live with someone with a health or mental health condition
- 65% said they sometimes or often feel depressed or anxious
- One in ten worry their family might run out of food because of lack of money or other resource. Those identifying as Black (British), Chinese, mixed dual heritage or ‘other’ were significantly more likely to worry about food insecurity
- Four in ten say there are areas of Harrow where they feel unsafe
- Over 60% within key stages four to five (including college) do not know how to access local sexual health services
The key findings document also outlines a broad roadmap for next steps, including borough-wide practitioner events, dicussions and further research.
The full report from the survey will be published at the end of July 2021.
From 1 August 2021, children’s community services in Harrow will move the CNWL from London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust (LNWH) as part of an agreed transfer between NW London Integrated Care System partners. Read more here.
