Our newly formed Improvement Academy hosted healthcare leaders from across Europe as part of an in-person event held by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Health Improvement Alliance Europe (HIAE) in London earlier this month.

The IHI HIAE is a coalition of leaders united for change, driven by collaboration, and focused on improving health services and health outcomes. As part of this two-day event, CNWL invited attendees to the Trust to find out more about:

  • Our improvement journey in the last four years (Alison Butler, Director of Improvement and Simon Edwards, Clinical Lead and Medical Director)
  • Our innovative work on meaningful service user and carer involvement in improvement (Lucy Cook, Head of Patient and Carer Involvement and Sandra Jaycodi, Service User Advisor)
  • A QI project undertaken in Nile Ward a Psychiatric Intensive Care (PICU) Unit to reduce violence (Dr Mehtab Rahman, Consultant Psychiatrist)

Alison Butler, Director of Improvement said: “This was a great opportunity for us to share how we have adapted our improvement approach year on year with colleagues across Europe. Showcasing the improvements staff have achieved on Nile Ward to reduce violence and our work to achieve meaningful service user and carer involvement.”

The Improvement Academy builds on CNWL’s quality improvement experience over the last four years.

It will look to support wider improvement initiatives such as using improvement science to make process improvements, using lean methodologies, experience-based co-design, collaborative improvement programmes, systematic reviews, and much more.
