The British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing has published an article that discusses the impact and management of bladder and bowel dysfunction in multiple sclerosis, co-authored by CNWL’s Bladder and Bowel Nurse Consultant, Jane Young.
The article, Bladder and bowel management in multiple sclerosis, appeared in its MS Supplement and has been uploaded to the CNWL website – click here to read it.
The article concludes: “It is essential that the approach to bladder and bowel management in patients with MS be proactive rather than reactive. This article has given a brief overview of the prevalence, assessment and management of bladder and bowel dysfunction in MS.
“The relationship between MS and bladder and bowel dysfunction is complex. Therefore, it is vital that nurses ensure that patients are regularly reviewed and care plans are adjusted accordingly, which can, in turn, improve that patient’s long-term quality of life.”
Helen Willetts Director of Nursing for CNWL’s Goodall Division said: “I am very proud we have Jane in our organisation leading clinical practice for us and influencing good practice much more widely.”
The fellow author for the article is Joan Bradley, Lead Nurse for Multiple Sclerosis and Rehabilitation, Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
