In October 2020, CNWL’s sexual health service launched their new pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) service offering free HIV prevention medication on the NHS.

PrEP is medicine people at risk for HIV take to prevent getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. It is highly effective and reduces a person’s risk of HIV infection by 92-99%.

Since PrEP was made available for people at risk of HIV infection on the NHS the uptake and awareness of PrEP has been variable between communities and individuals.

There remains a substantial gap between the need and desire for PrEP and the number of people using it, so a new PrEP Programme Manager role has been created to increase PrEP uptake in North Central London.

The PrEP Programme manager will lead an awareness campaign and be at the forefront of this newly available treatment on the NHS, working with Public Health and other local authority teams and social care providers to establish easy access pathways to CNWL’s PrEP service.

CNWL’s Sexual Health Team is looking for a person with proven communication management skills and able to fully utilise digital technology and social media to reach out to priority groups. This person will be intuitive and able to work with a high degree of autonomy, responsible for proactively delivering the aims of this new campaign across multiple boroughs in North Central London (Camden, Islington, Haringey and Barnet).

This person will have in depth knowledge of some of the communities most at risk of HIV infection and ideally have links into community networks.

PrEP protects those most a risk of HIV infection and can even help reduce anxiety and improve sex lives, as those who take PrEP are not worried about getting HIV. More information on PrEP is available here.
