Marie Mahendran.jpgOne of CNWL's clinical educators in Milton Keynes has received a national Cavell Star Award.

This award is given to nurses, midwives, nursing associates and healthcare assistants who shine bright and show exceptional care, Marie Mahendran was awarded the star for the work she does within Clinical Education.

Marie said: “It was a big shock. I thought Davina, our Head of Clinical Education, was going to present something to one of the Trusts clinical education team, so when she said my name, it was a very nice surprise.”

Marie qualified in 1983 and has been working in Milton Keynes since 1985, firstly at the hospital in intensive care before joining CNWL in 2000 as Clinical Placement Facilitator, a job she has since made her own.  The role is a pivotal link between universities and the Trust and is important in managing the capacity and quality of placements for student nurses and AHP’s.

Davina said: “Well done Marie. You deserve this award and thank you for all your hard work. We’re all proud of you.

“You’ve made great improvements in the quality, experiences and opportunities students receive during their clinical placements, within the organisation.  The supervision and support structure you developed with the clinical educators has been particularly important in supporting aspirant nurses into the organisation and provided them with a safe space to reflect on their experiences, many of whom have stayed working within the Trust on qualification.”
