This Sunday, 21 February 2021, is Mental Health Nurses’ Day, the third in what has become an annual day nationwide to promote and celebrate all our fantastic nurses working in mental health services. It’s a day to encourage interest in the specialty too and the diversity of roles we have available here at CNWL.

This year it falls on a Sunday and that in itself is a reminder of the 24/7 nature of nursing – being there when they are needed most - and the commitment they make to this amazing profession. That dedication is even more evident in the midst of Covid-19.

Maria O'Brien, CNWL's Chief Nurse, said

"The skilled work our mental health nurses do can be so very different from other branches – on wards and in the community. Our nurses should all feel very proud and I want to personally thank all our mental health nursing staff for their dedicated service. I’m privileged to work alongside them.

"We came into nursing because we’re compassionate, we want to care; those values stick with us all, especially now. But nursing is much more than that; it’s a highly skilled profession that requires specialist knowledge."

If you are interested in becoming a mental health nurse at CNWL, please take a look at the current available opportunities.

Last year, to coincide with International Year of the Nurse and Midwife, we launched our own CNWL nursing badge (see below) – with a compass around the themes of ‘protection’, ‘guidance’ and ‘keeping people safe’. You can read more about the badge and stories from staff about why they came into mental health nursing on our Year of the Nurse stories page here
