Robyn Doran, CNWL Chief Operating Officer had a special message on our One Community Radio show to celebrate National Volunteers Week 2020.

Watch the full show if you missed it!

She gave a special thanks to the 137 volunteers that have worked in the Trust in the last 12 weeks, including those in inpatient areas and community and showed her appreciation for their dedication and hard work.

Part of her message said: “This week is Volunteers Week and this is something that has been an immense benefit to the Trust. I think in terms of Covid, it’s been a really difficult time for a lot of people, a lot of our staff, all the community and a lot of our patients.

"We’ve had an enormous interest in volunteering more than we’ve ever had before, and a number of you (volunteers) I wanted to thank on behalf of the Board.”

Tariro Gumbo, CNWL Volunteer Service Manager spoke with Co-Host Cate Latto on volunteering and K&C Voluntary partners and across the Trust.

We heard live from volunteers in the studio who spoke about their own experience of volunteering including Celia Crescenzo  (Ganges Ward), Carl Young (St Charles Library resource, Thames Ward) and community volunteers Vir and Nancy.

Bhavisha Jai Prakash also listened into the show and said:

“I would like to thank CNWL for the opportunity to volunteer during these unprecedented times. I've really enjoyed being part of the CAMHS service at Northwick Park, especially since this is the field I'm currently working in. The team at Northwick Park have been really welcoming and supportive and I've learnt a lot from them.”

Christine Black, who volunteered as a food delivery driver whilst being furloughed from work really enjoyed the experience.

She said: “ I volunteered to give me a purpose, to protect my mental health and when I had a family crisis, it was kind family, friends and volunteers who gave me strength to keep going. It's a lovely feeling when you are able to help someone else and people are so appreciative.  When you are feeling down it gives you a boost. And you are also helping vulnerable people.”

Sol Fernandez who tuned into the show for the first time complimented this week’s show.

Sol said: “I just wanted to say this was the first time I have watched this and it was absolutely amazing, such a great idea. Fantastic content with great people and then to end the show with different songs...just brilliant!”

Next week is a special carers’ week edition. The theme will be nature and getting outside. Claire Murdoch, Chief Executive and Robyn Doran will be appearing live on the show to talk about this.
