CNWL’s One Community garden at St Charles Hospital has been given a Thriving award from London in Bloom.

Cate Latto, One Community Lead and Founder said it was a noteworthy achievement as patients were unable to tend to the kitchen garden as they normally would during lockdown. The garden is planted with a range of flowers and plants, including beans, peas and tomatoes.

Cate said: “I am so proud we kept that going through lockdown, huge thanks to Annie and Colin (The Westway Trust) and to Simon and to all our patients who came when they could.

"The older adults also have loved access to this space and others from wards who came to this when first lockdown lifted and the sunflowers were the stuff of legend to all other allotment holders, tallest and biggest heads I have ever seen and just what was needed to cheer our spirits. Tomatoes not half bad either but mostly that space is so precious to us and it’s been a joy to share on our radio through the summer… Had some beautiful feedback from patients even though it was a very different experience from last year.

Who knows what next year will bring but congratulations to us all!!

One Community – What can I say but – We Rock!!”
