Milton Keynes Talking Therapies Service is today launching a promotional campaign aimed at older people throughout the area.

Too often conditions or feelings – like depression – tend to be dismissed as a natural part of growing old but they shouldn’t be! The NHS can help. This age group has contributed so much to the NHS over their lives and it’s here for them too.

Statistics show that it is in the main used by working age adults, though it is for all ages, and the service wants to see more elderly people accessing it.

The evidence nationally is that 64 per cent of people aged over 65 recover once they’ve undergone treatment compared to 51 per cent of adults aged 18-64, though this reflects the larger numbers of working age adults who use the service compared to older people.

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner and project lead, Maddison Eborall, said: “Feeling down or sad is not a natural part of ageing.

“Ageing is a fact of life, but getting older doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy it anymore and we can help provide support and advice and help to get you feeling more like yourself.”

Maddison plans on holding talks or roadshows in community centres and at old people’s homes as part of the promotional campaign.
