A group of concerned Londoners have joined together to help support hard-working CNWL staff with four espresso coffee machines.
The friends banded together to create the NHS Coffee Appeal, through which they hope to highlight the needs of CNWL staff and the wider NHS family during the Covid crisis.
Caroline de Guitaut decided she and her friends needed to do more than just clap the NHS, and came up with the idea of Clapping for Coffee after finding out that among things NHS workers were short of is decent coffee.
She said: “Our NHS workers are just so brilliant and hard-working in going well beyond the call of duty during this pandemic.
“CNWL staff do some unheralded work out in the community and I wanted to do something practical for them and for the wider NHS.
“After doing some research my friends and I found out that hardly any wards have an espresso machine and yet most staff would appreciate something that tastes better. Given that most coffee shops near hospitals have closed during this crisis I thought this was the least we could do.
“We all know there are a lot of other things they would need but we wanted to spark something off and hope this is just the start of fundraising for our brilliant NHS workers.
“Coffee is just emblematic of other things NHS staff need and I’m hoping is this will lead to something wider and encourages more people to donate towards not just the CNWL appeal but towards the NHS as a whole and gave it back something.”
