The pandemic has proven, without doubt, NHS staff are truly giants. An aptly named art installation called Standing with Giants was unveiled this week, commemorating NHS staff who have given so much to protect and save lives over the course of this pandemic.

The art installation highlights the experiences, bravery and dedication of NHS staff, and remembers those who have sadly passed away.

Located in South Park in Oxford, 300 life size figures based on original photographs of NHS staff stand proudly, and remind us of all the countless people that have stepped forward to protect everyone. Each figure is made from recycled building waste and were hand cut and painted by volunteers over 3 months.

Annabel Butcher, CNWL Wellbeing Lead, volunteered to help open the new art installation this week, she said:

“It was incredibly moving to be part of the Standing with Giants NHS art installation unveiling. The artwork is a powerful tribute to all the NHS staff who have worked through the pandemic and particularly to those whose lives we lost. To be part of the launch and help honour the work of all my NHS colleagues was really special. I hope many people come to visit the installation and use it as a time to reflect on what we’ve been through and what we achieved.”

Everyone is invited to walk alongside these giants and salute the bravery of our NHS workers.

The installation is supporting NHS Charities Together and people can donate if they can here, to help take this installation around the country.

Standing with Giants is open until 1 August 2021 at South Park in Oxford. You can find out more about the new art installation here.
