CNWL’s Club Drug Clinic marked its 10th anniversary with a visit from Health Minister Jo Churchill MP.
The socially distanced visit was held at the clinic in Earl’s Court Road on Thursday, 1 October, but was also broadcast via Zoom to staff and commissioners.
Clinic founder Dr Owen Bowden-Jones welcomed the Minister with Service Manager and Systemic Psychotherapist Becky Harris.
They delivered a presentation that ran through the clinic’s history, the types of clients it saw and its success rate as well as the variety of substances it is now seeing and new developments.
The minister was particularly interested in how the Club Drug Clinic had developed - the links to social events and experiences, being an 'untraditional' service, and links to many other clinical specialisms - the model of a modern service.
The Minister said: “I’m delighted to have been invited to the Club Drug Clinic’s 10th anniversary celebrations.
“Addiction services focus on prevention, delivery and recovery, which are all equally important. Today I have seen the impressive innovation led by this Clinic, which adapts to and monitors the changing trends in universities, clubs and society, in order to help those who come to the service.
“Dr Bowden-Jones, his team and I had good discussions about the fantastic work done by everyone, ensuring that in the 2020s good research drives good ideas and good innovation, which all helps save more lives and drive hope for new beginnings.
“Today, I would like to say thank you for the work you do. For helping individuals in their recovery and in rebuilding their lives. May I wish you the best for the next decade.”
