Professor Dorothy Griffiths, the Chair of CNWL is pleased to announce that the Council of Governors has appointed Richard Cartwright as a Non Executive Director. Richard will Chair the Audit Committee from July 2021 (replacing David Roberts who has reached the end of his term of office.)
Richard is a Chartered Accountant and Academic at the University of Southampton.
Richard, who was paralysed after an accident in 2006, said, “Having travelled across the world since my accident, I am acutely aware how privileged we are to have the NHS. Being appointed a Non Executive Director at CNWL is an honour and at this crucial time, an opportunity for me give back to an institution that has given me a second chance at life”.
Beyond CNWL Richard is a Governor at Motability and an Independent External Member of their Audit and Risk Assurance Committee at the National Audit Office.
Motability is a substantial national charity, which sets strategic policies and direction of the Motability Scheme (Europe’s largest car leasing scheme) using its charitable funds (over £1bn) to help achieve its vision of a future where no disabled person is disadvantaged due to poor access to transportation.
Having spent the past three years sitting on the University of Southampton Council, Richard adds: “I am passionate about enterprise-informed teaching. Engaging with government, professional bodies, charities and businesses has a mutual benefit. I enjoy sharing my academic and professional knowledge with other organisations and bringing this experience back to benefit students in my classroom”.
Richard lives in Southampton, is married with a young son. He likes to keep as active as possible, swimming, finding accessible(ish) walks in the New Forest and playing wheelchair rugby.
