CNWL has appointed Surriya Subramaniam (pictured) as Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Manager. He has more than 10 years’ experience, and is currently the Emergency Planner at London City Airport.
Surriya says, “Emergency Planning is preparing and responding to emergencies. In the last five years I’ve dealt with a range of them - floods, loss of water, power cuts, demonstrations, Anthrax, oil leaks, storms, and of course the pandemic! Whatever the disruption, you have to have plans ready; in an emergency the plans bring the right people together to resolve it.”
“I’ve watched with admiration how everyone has worked to provide critical NHS services during the Covid pandemic. Like many people, I have had personal experience of a very close member of my family living with health problems. It's experiences like this that reinforce how precious the NHS is. I'm looking forward to joining the CNWL team and learning fast.”
Jack Pooler, CNWL’s Assistant Director of Safety, said, “He was the best candidate and impressed us with his varied experience and the positive attitude behind it. Emergency Planners have to think about worst cases, so you need to be cheerful too! Welcome to CNWL Surriya!”
Surriya and his partner Rekha live with their son in Elstree, “famous for its film studios where Star Wars and Raiders of the Lost Ark were shot and infamous for the Big Brother house”.
He adds, “I have a passion for good food, traveling to interesting places (most recently Rio and Dubai) and watching foreign films that make me think and teach me about different cultures.”
He starts work on 14 September.
CNWL sends a huge ‘thank you’ to Paul Cleary, who was seconded into the role and has carried the responsibility throughout the pandemic. He is now – very happily – returning to his job in our Offender Care services.
