Ealing CCG has confirmed that West London Trust has been awarded the contract to deliver its single contract for community-based services within the borough, working with Central & North West London NHS Foundation Trust, The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and other partners.

NHS England and NHS Improvement have now undertaken the final stages of their regulatory process and have given the green light for the contract to go ahead.  West London Trust will start to deliver services from June 2019.

Maria O’Brien, CNWL’s Director of Community Services said,

“I’m so pleased the partnership has won the go ahead; this is great news for the Ealing Community and staff transfer can now start. We look forward to welcoming all staff into the partnership.

“This partnership approach is a better way of working; bringing expert providers together – from the NHS and the voluntary sector, with our colleagues in social care – to deliver fuller community services,  drawing on the experience each of us brings. Let’s go to work!”

Dr Mohini Parmar, Chair of Ealing CCG, said: “We are pleased we have been giving the go ahead. We believe it is good news for patients and local residents moving forward as we continue to develop truly integrated and coordinated care.  Now starts the hard work of getting ready and we will be working with West London NHS Trust and their partners to do so.”

Carolyn Regan, Chief Executive of West London NHS Trust, added: “We can now press on with getting everything ready for when we take on these services in June.

“Our overriding priority from day one is to make sure that patients, service users and carers see no difference to the care and support they receive.  Patients will see the same doctors, nurses and other health and care professionals and will continue to receive care in the same places as now.

“We’re also listening to the local community, seeking their views and working with them to shape our plans to ensure that services meet their needs.

“Poor physical and mental health is linked. Today’s contract means that in the future, we’ll be able to assess and treat people’s physical and mental health needs to provide the very best quality care to the people of Ealing.”

Some of the services included in the contract are:

  • Community adults and children’s nursing and therapy services
  • Intermediate care services to support patients being treated closer to home as an alternative to acute hospital admission:  helping local hospitals to ensure they are hospital settings
  • Clayponds Community Hospital which includes beds for those needing intensive physical rehabilitation and enhanced nursing support who would, otherwise, be at risk of admission to a general hospital
  • Enhanced primary care (GP) services supporting Ealing’s nursing homes
  • Primary care mental health support teams
  • Dementia support teams
  • Adult Learning Disability Services

That first phase of transformation will focus on adult services and include:

  • Implementation of a new single point of access operating 24/7/365 days a year with clinical triage to improve access to services for patients, carers and those referring to services
  • Functions for supporting a response in time of crisis and smooth discharge from hospital established and consistently meeting operating requirements 24/7/365
  • Joint care teams, linking with primary care, established across the borough
  • Implementation of the a new chronic pain service, linking with existing musculoskeletal services
