Since October 2021 drivers must pay ULEZ charge to TfL when entering the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (i.e. within the north and south circular). This is a daily charge which applies to certain vehicles if you are not resident within the Zone.

NHS organisations are able to recover ULEZ charges from TfL on patients behalf. Read more guidance on this.

This does not apply to staff who must bear charges themselves and cannot reclaim from their employer.

The ULEZ charge is only claimable for appointments at sites which fall within the Zone. See the list of ULEZ sites.

There are three ways to pay driver’s ULEZ charge:

The driver has set up an account with TfL, which automatically charges them whenever their vehicle enters the  ULEZ. The Trust can reclaim charges on driver’s behalf for the days of your appointments using the form on this page below. This can be reclaimed up to 6 months after the appointment and will be refunded the driver’s TfL account. Submissions to the Trust should be made as early as possible as claims made to TfL outside of this window will not be processed. We will confirm by email at the point we claim from TfL, which will be within one month of submission.

This is where the charge is made as a one-off payment to TfL. The Trust will pay these on the patients behalf and then reclaim from TfL directly. Requests for payment need to be made on or before the day of travel and will not be claimable otherwise. We will confirm successful payment by email.

If the ULEZ charge has already been paid by the driver this can still be claimed via the Trust. However we will only be able to refund your payment once we have successfully claimed the charge from TfL. We will be in touch to arrange payment once TfL have accepted the claim. Note this is the slowest way to reclaim charges and should be used as a last resort.

For all three payment methods claims should be requested with the web-form below. This should be completed by the clinical team or reception staff on behalf of drivers. This poster should also be displayed in reception areas.
