Dr Gopalkrishna Hedge, Consultant Psychiatrist, and Kathy Hutson, Medical Secretary, have been acknowledged in the book Poems and Reflections on the Ravages of Psychosis written by Fiona Rosemary Robson and Carina Robson

The book shares poems and reflections drawn from over 24 years of living with and making sense of psychosis. It shows how, even through the most intense suffering, recovery and resilience are possible.

It follows the journey of a mother and daughter as they face the challenges and emotional toll of psychosis. While the poems explore difficult and often painful experiences, the book is ultimately hopeful—celebrating strength, love, and the refusal to be defeated by illness.

Author Carina Robson says:

“I am only a survivor because of the mental health teams who have all, without exception, treated me with unwavering dignity and respect. Like guardian angels, they have been there for me in the foreground, and sometimes in the background, yet always unfailingly there, offering support, advice and gentle tender care.”

“I recall my first appointment many moons ago when I was frozen with fear. However, the welcoming staff at reception and the genuine empathy and warmth of the psychiatrists and mental health professionals soon dispelled my fear. Gradually, the team helped me to talk and to unburden myself of the conflicting emotions relating to psychosis.”

“The integrity of the teams is absolute and, consequently, I have always felt safe and protected. Last but by no means least, the teams have never during all these long years judged me. Each and every member of the teams deserve a standing ovation for the countless ways in which they have helped me. With eternal gratitude and abiding respect.”

The recognition of Dr. Hedge and Kathy in this deeply personal and moving book highlights the lasting impact that compassionate, skilled mental health care can have on individuals and families.

Their dedication, along with that of the wider CNWL team, stands as a powerful reminder of the difference kindness, empathy, and expertise make in the journey toward healing.
