Today we’re launching our updated Green Plan, which sets out how we’ll meet our sustainability goals by 2028. It builds on the work we’ve already done and focuses on the areas where we can make the biggest impact.
What’s in the new plan?
- It focuses on ten key areas that matter across the Trust.
- Highlights shared goals like reducing energy use, cutting emissions and getting staff involved.
- Includes updates on past progress and adds new priorities.
What we’ve already achieved
- Undertaken sustainable energy reduction projects across 30 of our sites and successfully received external funding to increase the scope of our projects.
- Switched to light emitting diode (LED) lighting at some sites, saving 58 tonnes of CO₂ per year. We now have 90% LED coverage on our sites.
- Installed solar panels, reducing carbon from grid electricity by 61 tonnes a year.
- Made all managed waste services 100% zero to landfill (ahead of national targets)
- Moved to digital patient communications (with consent).
- Launched a staff sustainability award, with three winners so far.
Speaking on the new Green Plan, Tom Shearer, Chief Finance Officer, said:
“This plan highlights the great progress we’ve made and the important work that still needs to be done.
"There are many great examples of the excellent work happening across CNWL - from the Camden Wheelchair Service repairing and reusing equipment, the move to paperless appointments, to the launch of our ‘Go Gloves Off’ campaign led by the Infection, Prevention and Control team.
"I encourage everyone to get involved and share their own experiences and initiatives so that beneficial changes for one service can be shared with others”.
