Today, Claire Murdoch, Chief Executive, shared this message with our staff:

Dear colleagues,

Yesterday’s horrific attack in Manchester has left us all shocked and deeply saddened. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and everyone affected by this senseless act of violence.

This act of violence is not only a direct assault on the Jewish community - it is an affront to the values of safety, dignity, and respect that we all hold dear. I know that there will be Jewish colleagues who will naturally feel alarmed, fearful, and unsafe about the rise in hate, aggression, and attacks against Jewish people. We stand united against hate in all its forms, and I want to reaffirm our commitment against all forms of antisemitism and hatred against Jewish people.

It is especially painful that this attack happened here in England - in our country, in a city known for its warmth, diversity, and resilience. It strikes at the heart of our shared values and reminds us how vital it is to protect the communities we live and work in.

In moments like these, it is more important than ever that we stand together in unwavering condemnation of terrible and threatening behaviour in all its forms. As a community of clinicians, carers, and healers in the NHS - and as CNWL - we must continue to uphold the values of inclusion, kindness, and solidarity that define our work. We do this not just for ourselves, but for our patients, their families, and the communities we serve every day.

When I talked about the need for unity and inclusion at our Wednesday webinar only two days ago, I was struck by the outpouring of support through hearts and applause on screen - a powerful reminder that we are one CNWL, together.

I was especially moved this morning by the message from the British Muslim Network, which expressed heartfelt condolences and a powerful rejection of violence. Their words remind us that our strength lies in unity, and that hatred will never divide us.

Please look after one another. Reach out if you need support. And let us continue to be a source of strength and hope for those we serve and for each other.

With heartfelt thanks,

Claire Murdoch
Chief Executive, CNWL
