CNWL provides NHS services throughout a person’s life, in physical and mental health and everything in between, at GPs and hospitals to the community and in their own home.

We’re a large organisation with thousands of patients. About 26% of our patients are seen in mental health services, 32% in sexual health and the largest group – 42% of all patients – are seen in community services, across eight London boroughs and Milton Keynes. In this sense we are a very modern part of the NHS, with better integration and coordination of care, delivered as close to home as possible.

Our Community Health Strategy outlines 14 key commitments we’ve made over the next five years

Where community care is not possible we offer a number of facilities to treat people in hospital or residential environments. We also provide healthcare in prisons in London and the surrounding areas.

The skilled work our mental health nurses do can be very different from other branches – on wards and in the community - working as they do with the challenges of mental illness and often for long periods of time, sometimes with people in the deepest of crisis and often with long term conditions. Physical health has been a growing part of this work, to close the gap of the years of life lost.

Last year we launched our own CNWL nursing badge –it’s a badge of honour to wear with a compass around the themes of ‘protection’, ‘guidance’ and ‘keeping people safe’. This fits with our Trust values of compassion, respect, empowerment and partnership.

From the day you arrive you will be given the tools to support your development and success in your career. Every new starter on the international recruitment programme has an extended induction period. We know how important it is for you to pass the NMC OSCE so you will start by attending a 2 week OSCE preparation programme which will take you through the OSCE step by step and give you plenty of opportunities to practice the exam. Central and North West London NHS Trust has a dedicated team, who provide training and support to prepare the internationally educated nurses to undertake their NMC OSCE.

Following the OSCE preparation programme you will be introduced to the workplace and shadow a Registered Nurse. You will have an allocated mentor in your placement areas to support your transition into nursing in the UK and Clinical Educators for Overseas Nurses will support your practice sessions. We have a range of learning opportunities to help you develop your skills and confidence ranging from conversation classes to skill simulation classes.

Once you have gained your NMC pin you will be able to join an extended preceptorship programme and will have access to all the development opportunities which all our nurses enjoy. We are committed to ensuring that all our nurses participate in continuing professional development which supports their practice and career development.
