Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service

Buckinghamshire Priority Dental Service (BPDS) are a team of dentist, dental therapists, dental nurses and reception and administrative staff who provide a high standard of care and service to patients.

What we offer

We offer a service for patients who fit the criteria listed below, and as a result of this are unable to have care provided to them by a general dental service:

Adults and children with learning disabilities
Adults and children with complex medical problems
Adults and children with severe mental health problems
Children with severe behavioural management problems
Adults and children with very severe anxiety and dental phobias * this is available in Buckinghamshire clinics only, not Milton Keynes.

Referrals

You need to be referred to our service.

Our service are generally only available to individuals who are referred to us by a medical or dental practitioner or other health/social care worker and individuals who fall into one or more of the following categories:

Learning disabilities
Severe mental health problems
Severe behavioural management problems (may include young children requiring general anaesthesia)
Complex medical problems
Very severe anxiety and dental phobias * only for people living in Buckinghamshire – this is not available in Milton Keynes
Physical disabilities who either may need domiciliary care or due to their disability are unable to access a local NHS dentist

And as a result of one or more of the above, this impacts their ability to receive dental care from a General Dental Practitioner.

If an individual does not fall into any of these categories, we regret they will not be eligible to be seen by our service.

Sedation

Inhalation Sedation Treatment (IHS) – in clinic
Intranasal Sedation Treatment (IN) – in clinic (generally MK)
Intravenal Sedation Treatment (IV) – on clinic
General Anaesthetic (GA) – in hospital setting.

Domiciliary

Home visits – where appropriate for patients that cannot/do not leave their home.

Hoist
We have a hoist at all of our sites in one surgery to provide a facility to enable patients in wheelchairs to transfer into the dental chair.

Plus size
We have a bariatric chair and wheelchair tipper at our Oakridge and Shipley Court sites to allow plus size patients to receive dental care. These referrals can come from outside of the county.
